Headwaters Incorporated

Headwaters, Inc. developed and deployed environmentally favorable alternative coal fuels and building materials.

Headwaters Incorporated, through its subsidiaries, became a leader in both the pre-combustion treatment as well as the post-combustion treatment of coal. Headwater, INC. both managed and marketed coal combustion products (CCP), or the by-products of coal that is burned for electricity, on the behalf of power plants.

As the only CCP manager in the U.S. with national coverage, Headwater, Inc.. made its revenues by licensing its technology, selling interests in the synfuel plants that it has developed alone or with partners, and by supplying plants with chemical reagents.

After relocating its headquarters to South Jordan, Utah in 2003, Headwaters Inc. planned to continue to acquire small fly ash companies in an effort to enhance its position as the national leader in coal combustion product management. The company also owned proprietary technologies for a number of building products related to fly ash, including aerated concrete, rapid setting concrete, mortars and stuccos.

Its principal subsidiaries were Environmental Technologies Group, LLC, Hydrocarbon Technologies, Inc, and Industrial Services Group, Inc.

In 2016, Headwaters, Inc, was acquired by Australian-based Boral Ltd.,bAustralia’s largest building and construction materials supplier, with an extensive presence in the North American building and construction materials industry with bricks, concrete and clay roof tiles, manufactured stone and fly ash.
